1 hour 30 minutes from central London is Down House, home of scientist Charles Darwin from 1842 until his passing in 1882.
Vineyard Tours
The United Kingdom has not, historically, been known for its wine. However, in the last 20 years, production has quadrupled. There are over 900 vineyards and over 200 wineries, mostly concentrated in the south and south east England counties of Kent and Sussex. With a similar geology and climate to the Champagne region of France, the south of England is ideal for growing grapes for sparkling wines. In blind tastings, English sparkling wines have been winning international competitions. Such is the reputation, French Champagne house Tattinger has invested in Kent Vineyards.
English sparkling wine was served to the guests at the Wedding of the Prince and Princess of Wales in 2011. Glen offers a full day wine tour or a half day wine tour plus half day other attraction. For some of my regular tours, there maybe a vineyard with a tasting room that we can just pop into rather than a full tour. The list on offer is not exhaustive.
