Stratford upon Avon, approximately 2 hours from central London, is the birthplace of arguably the world's greatest playwright, William Shakespeare.

The town of Stratford upon Avon is famous as the birthplace of playwright, William Shakespeare. Although any details of his life in Stratford are unknown, it is safe to say he was from a comfortable middle class family, with his father, John, being a glove maker by trade.
The family home was also the workshop and store for John’s business and it is believed that William was born here in 1564. It is possible to visit the Birthplace, one several buildings in town associated with William Shakespeare.
It is highly likely he attended the local King Edward VI school, one part of which is open to the public and will give you an idea of the type of education William received.
Shakespeare married a local girl, Anne Hathaway in 1582. Her family home is also open to the public.
It would appear that William split his time between Stratford and London where he made his fortune. He bought New Place in Stratford where it is believed he died on 1616. He is buried with members of his family in the Holy Trinity Church.
