City of Oxford

The City of Oxford is famous for the oldest University in the English speaking world. Founded in the early 13th Century, it is comprised of 39 colleges which are essentially communities of students and academics. Most of the colleges are enclosed by a large wall, within which you will find, dormitories, a dining hall, library, a chapel and are open to the public.

In addition to the colleges, there are the other buildings connected to the University that are open to the public. For example, the Sheldonian building where Graduation ceremonies take place and the University’s central Library, the Bodleian.

Three main museums in Oxford are the Ashmolean, Museum of Natural History and Pitt River museum. You can even try your hand at punting!
