Oxford & Bletchley Park 10 hour tour

During the Second World War, Bletchley Park was home to Government Code and Cypher School. It was the main centre where intercepted encrypted messages sent by the allies' enemies were deciphered.

First we head to Oxford, about 1 hour and 30 minutes from the centre of London. Oxford is the city famous for the oldest University in the English speaking world. The University comprises different colleges which are essentially communities of students. Most of the colleges are enclosed by a large wall within which you can see dormitories, a dining hall, library and chapel. In terms of architecture and arrangement, the colleges are very similar so we will visit one, usually New College. If you are interested in the Harry Potter movie series, then a few scenes were shot at this college.

In addition to the colleges, there are the libraries and schools to visit and, of course, time for souvenir shopping before heading to Bletchley.

It is about 1 hour from Oxford to Bletchley Park. Lunch en-route.

Our tour of Bletchley Park will take you through the site. The 19th Century manor house, was mostly administrative. Additional buildings, constructed during the war, was where the codebreakers, mathematicians and engineers worked. You will see Hut 8 where Alan Turin worked to help decipher Enigma messages from the German Navy. Hut 11 houses a reconstructed Bombe machine used to help calculate the settings of the Enigma machine.
