City of Bath – 9 Hour Tour

It takes about 1 hour 45 minutes from central London to Castle Combe, a most delightful, quintessential English village in the area known as the Cotswolds. We stop here for about 30 minutes for photographs and Bath is a further 20 minutes away.

Bath has Britain’s only natural hot spring that has attracted people for thousands of years to bathe in and drink the water for medicinal and spiritual purposes. The Romans utilised the spring and developed the town as a place of rest, recreation and worship.
In the 18th Century, the town was redeveloped, with large townhouses built of locally quarried stone. There are some architectural gems built in a Palladian syle, in particular, The Circus and the Royal Crescent. It was very popular to ‘take the water’ in the 18th Century and many famous people lived in the city such as Prime Minister William Pitt and portrait artist Thomas Gainsborough. The 18th Century social scene focused on the Pump Room and the Assembly Rooms, both feature in some of the novels of another Bath resident, Jane Austen to whom there is a small museum.
There is much to see in Bath and you really need a weekend here. The Roman Baths are the main attraction which I recommend visiting in detail.

It is approximately 2.5 hours back to central London.
