The oldest parts of Leeds Castle date back 900 years, and it was used by successive Queens of England. It became used less and less by monarchs after the mid 16th Century and the castle was last occupied by a socialite known as Lady Baillie from the early 20th Century until the 1970s. The castle, surrounded by the moat and gardens, is a beautiful setting. There remain some medieval style rooms reflecting a little Tudor history but most rooms are decorated to Lady Baillie’s tastes in the early 20th Century.

On to a vineyard. Lunch can be taken en-route or, depending on vineyard we visit, we can enjoy lunch at the vineyard.

Which vineyard we visit may depend on guests’ preference and availability of winery tour. Gren Tours’ favourite vineyard near Leeds is the Balfour Winery, part of the 400 acre Hush Heath Estate. Sourcing grapes from 200 acres of Hush Heathand nearby vineyards, Balfour produce international award winning wines include a rose from the three traditional grapes and a sparkling chardonnay. The estate also has an orchard, the apples from which produce a fine cider. There is also a collaboration with a local brewery for equally refreshing products..
